But dutifully I crossed the field and headed toward the new bike trail. All at once a flash of blue caught my eye. Why a bluebird was hanging around Iowa the first week of November, I don't know. But the sight of my favorite bird blessed me.
I began to look around me. The golden waving grass of the wetlands, the silver river gliding under the bridge, and my happy little pup, waving her tail and poking her nose in everything.
And then I saw this. A black-eyed Susan (or black-eyed Me as I affectionately call them.) Long past the blooming season, long after the early frosts should have nipped it. I stooped and picked it, enjoying every detail of the bloom as I carried it home.
So, where are you looking today as you travel your life's path? Are you seeing only clouds and mud? Or are you raising your head and looking for God's blessings?
Even the path that winds its way through the darkness of grief, or the fogs of despair, or just the stress and busyness of life, is still brightened by God's blessings. Lift up your head and look for them.
Proverbs 10:22 It is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich.
