After we adopted our short-legged Lab, Molly, from the shelter, she got a new name, a new home, and a new life. Molly loved the regular meals, the belly rubs and ear scratches. Some of our house rules, not so much. But she worked hard to learn the language. She quickly understood "treat" and "walk" and "sit." It's taking longer for her to learn "Don't chew that," and "Time to go in your kennel."
The more time she spends with me, the more language she learns. Walking beside me, laying at my feet, watching me in the kitchen, she soaks in the language and begins to understand her new life.
When we have received new life in Christ, we have a Master's voice we need to hear and understand, too. And, just like Molly, the more time we spend with our Master, the more we will understand what He has to say to us.
Read and study His word, spend time in prayer, quiet your hearts and listen to hear His voice. And the sometimes confusing world of being a Christ follower will become more familiar, more understandable.
John 10:2-4 "The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of His sheep ... He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out. When He has brought out all His own, He goes on ahead of them, and His sheep follow Him because they know His voice."
Are you spending enough time with the Shepherd that you know and understand His voice?
