I never know why, but there are areas of beaches that have lots of beautiful shells, areas with no shells, and areas with only battered broken pieces or even rocks. One beautiful early morning walk, my husband and I found a stretch of beach covered with lovely and unique sand dollars.
If I am totally honest, I’m in the tide-going-out stage of my life. And I wonder what I am leaving behind on the sand. Is it broken pieces? Is it something beautiful that others can treasure? Or is it an empty stretch of sand?
Paul says it well in 1 Corinthian 3:13 “ …his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work.”
Only what I do for Christ will last. My frantic scurrying here and there, my attempts at good works for all the wrong reasons, all that I do for my own pleasure – those are broken pieces or rocks.
When my tide goes out, if I want what’s left on the beach to be sand dollar quality, I need to make sure that what I do every day, is for Jesus Christ my Savior.
